Cal will be speaking in the Construction Forum main conference theatre on Wednesday 21 October 2009, 11:40am-12:20 on the following topic:

'Revamping and Reformatting Stores'

• Detailing what retailers want from the construction industry

• Highlighting how building services and systems engineers can help meet retailers' needs in the future – a focus on Union Square

• Understanding what appeals to retailers and what they want, and need, out of their built environment

• The importance of sustainability to the sector

Cal will be talking about NG Bailey's delivery of a shopping centre / leisure destination project in Scotland called Union Square - which they are working on with main contractor Miller Construction and developer Hammerson and is due to open in Autumn 2009. For NG Bailey it has been a multi million pound job, which has involved all areas of their business.

Union Square is aiming to be a modern, retail led, mixed use scheme comprising of a covered mall with a retail park, offering an inviting, traffic free, cosmopolitan, shopping, dining and entertainment environment close to Union Street.

It will consist of 700,000 sq ft, 56 retail units (525,000 sq ft), up to 12 catering units (40,000 sq ft), Cine UK 10 screen multiplex cinema, the largest in Aberdeen (2400 seats), 1700 parking spaces, a 203 room 3*+ hotel with conference facilities, a civic square and fully centrally integrated with Aberdeen's transport hub comprising of the train and bus stations.
